CBT focuses on helping individuals understand how their thinking about a situation affects the way they feel and act. In turn it considers how behaviour can affect thoughts and feelings. CBT is an effective intervention for individuals suffering from anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and eating disorders. It is also often helpful for sleep difficulties.
DBT teaches skills to manage emotions and relationships more effectively. The four sets of behavioural skills that are taught in DBT are mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotional regulation.
Treatment of ADHD includes medication and psychological therapy such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, stress reduction, and behavioural training.
